PLASP’s kaizen roadmap to online bliss

Kaizen (pronounced K-hi-zen) is a term for continuous improvement. PLASP Child Care Services has been helping families over the last 40 years by taking a progressive approach to our services, programs and communication.

We’re committed to providing high-quality child care, and we value parent feedback and innovation. We like to check in with our parents to see if there are any gaps, so we can continue to meet the needs of our parents, staff and community. Our website was designed with users in mind—but we know we can make it better.

Over the next six months, we'll be working on a website improvement plan and taking you behind the scenes. Opening our project and process to the public is a bit of an unconventional approach—but we’re big on trust, integrity and transparency.

PLASP will be hosting parent focus group sessions this summer and are looking for parents to participate. Our first session is on July 23 from 4:45 to 5:55 in Mississauga. Additional focus group will run from 4:45 to 5:55 pm on the following dates:

  • July 27 – Brampton
  • July 28 – Toronto (Etobicoke)
  • July 29 – Mississauga
  • August 5 – Brampton
  • August 6 – Malton

If you're interested in attending a focus group over the summer, email daniellenorris@plasp.com. There will be other opportunities to participate in surveys and focus groups throughout the year.

Here’s a quick look at what we’ll be focusing on:

Phase 1: Planning & Research (current phase)

  • Developing an overall communications plan to map out the project goals objectives and outcomes
  • Compiling data from past parent satisfaction and online registration feedback surveys to find gaps in our website
  • Co-ordinating parent focus groups and surveys to flush out the gaps

Phase 2: Audit/implementation

  • Conducting an audit using parent research, best practices and website industry standards
  • Developing an improvement plan to include the following:
    • Content
    • Design/interactivity
    • Functionality/usability
  • Assessing changes and begin implementation

Phase 3: User testing

  • Coordinating user testing session with parents
  • Conducting focus groups and developing surveys to get parent feedback on website changes

We'll keep you posted on the progress of this project as we continue with our kaizen approach to improving the website.

Kaizen - Not just a Manufacturing Industry Tool

Just wanted to commend you on your use of the Kaizen philosophy. I am in the manufacturing sector and we have been using this philosophy for several years. I would be interested in learning more about your successes and shortcomings using this philosophy and you are most welcome to hear about ours. My email address is attached to this post. Great job!
