Engaging with Your Child
Children love making easy crafts, especially when it’s combined with nature. This activity provides such opportunity for your child to create and build a toy in only three easy steps. Finding a stick together in your backyard or at the park is great quality time that you can spend with your child while you are having an active conversation and observing nature. Having your child cut the strips as long or as short as they want and tying them onto the sticks is a great fine motor activity which also strengthens the hand muscles and hand-eye co-ordination that children will need for doing future school tasks. When this step is done, play music to dance or take your child outside and see what happens when they hold it in the wind or when they are running or dancing while holding the streamers. Make one for yourself too and have fun with your child.
Tip: You can always adapt the activity to your child’s age and level of skills by offering assistance to younger children throughout the process.
