Celebrating the Many Contributions of Custodians during PLASP Custodian’s Week, February 10-14th

You may not realize it, but custodians are often the un-sung heroes that make it possible for PLASP programs to run safely every day. Responsible for daily safety checks ranging from fire alarms systems to the mechanical maintenance of boiler rooms, heating and cooling systems, and more, custodians do much more than keeping our indoor and outdoor spaces clean.

We at PLASP believe that this level of dedication and contribution deserves a week of recognition, which is why we came-up with PLASP Custodian’s Week, this year held February 10-14th.

During this week PLASP shows appreciation to the over 750 custodians across Peel and Toronto employed by the school boards that PLASP partners with, who on a daily basis ensure the health and safety of the 17,000 children at our 241 PLASP locations.

“The health and safety of the children and staff in our PLASP programs is our topmost priority. Our partnerships with the custodial staff in our program locations is absolutely critical to ensuring a safe, healthy, and clean environment conducive to learning and play” – Jeff deFreitas, Vice President, Operations

During PLASP Custodian’s Week, children and staff give thank you cards and handmade gifts of appreciation to the custodial staff at their location. In doing so, PLASP children also gain a better understanding of all that custodians do.

“Mr. Singh has been the custodian at Plowman’s Park for twenty-two year – in fact he was here when my own children were attending this school! In our PLASP program, we have been discussing with the children the importance of Mr. Singh’s role. He is a very kind and hardworking man and we appreciate him!” – Mrs. Lobna Ajaini, PLASP Program Director

As a licensed child care operator, PLASP meets and exceeds all health and safety requirements of the Ministry of Education and local government bylaws.

PLASP programs operate within spaces in our partnering schools. Custodians work with PLASP program staff to ensure these shared spaces are left clean and in excellent condition.
