Award-Winning ECE Dreams of Becoming a Child Life Specialist
PLASP presents this award annually in conjunction with the Sheridan College Early Childhood Education Program. Sheridan selects the recipient of the “Barb K Award” (as it’s known to PLASP staff), presenting the scholarship to a student who has overcome challenging or unusual circumstances while maintaining high academic standing.
The recipient of the award, Shannon, is a very driven student. She will be graduating this year from Sheridan College but will continue her education at the University of Guelph-Humber to earn a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Studies. She plans to continue her studies by earning a degree as a Child Life Specialist. Shannon has strong and lasting connections to the Child Life Specialists that have helped her throughout her life. Her goal is to do the same, by assisting children that need the support and skills of a Child Life Specialist.

PLASP CEO Lynn Hiebert was present at the awards ceremony, and was thrilled to join Sheridan College with recognizing Shannon with this award. “Shannon’s dedication and commitment to children and helping them to face adversity in their lives is an inspiration to anyone that meets her,” says Lynn. “We know that she will go on to have a positive impact in her career as an ECE and we would like to thank her in advance for all that she will do. “
