Frequently Asked Questions - Kindergarten Programs

Below are some frequently asked questions about PLASP's Before and After School programs for Extended Day Kindergarten children.

You must complete all the fields required in the registration process. Read more about what information is required.

Your registration will not be confirmed until you have two emergency contacts who would be available in case of an emergency. The two emergency contacts must have different telephone numbers, and be aware of this responsibility.

Until you get a family doctor, write in the phone number and address of a walk-in medical clinic that you would use. You must also include the name of a doctor who works at that clinic, preferably one your child has seen on a regular basis.

PLASP offers a discount to families who have three or more children registered with PLASP. A 50% discount will be applied to the child care fees of the third and subsequent child who is six years of age and older, actively participating in a school age program.

 

PLASP Child Care Services accepts funding from Children’s Services for the Region of Peel and the City of Toronto. Families who need financial assistance can apply to the Region of Peel or the City of Toronto. Please contact them at your earliest opportunity to begin the process to receive a subsidy.

If you live in Toronto or the Region of Peel, you are responsible for 100% of the fees for your child(ren) until your subsidy takes effect.

PLASP follows Canada's Food Guide and serves meals and snacks developed by a nutritionist. Children receive a nutritious breakfast and an afternoon snack. Weekly menus are posted on the parent bulletin board in each program.

Weather permitting, children in the PLASP programs go outside on a daily basis. On good weather days, children may remain outdoors for longer periods of time.

Our 1,500+ members of staff are trained to the highest standards in understanding the needs of children. PLASP's non-discrimintory hiring practices create teams of staff from diverse backgrounds that support and build positive relationships with the children, families and communities where our programs are located. 

We take time and care when choosing our kindergarten and school age staff, making sure that the candidates we choose are warm, nurturing and caring people who connect well with children, families and the community. 

All PLASP school age and kindergarten program staff hold a valid Standard First Aid Certificate with level C CPR, and a clear vulnerable sector criminal reference check. We recruit Registered Early Childhood Educators, as well as candidates with Ontario College of Teachers (OCT), Child and Youth Worker (CYW) and Child and Youth Practitioner (CYC) designations. All staff hired to work in our kindergarten and school age programs meet the Ministry requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act. Staff also particiapte in additional training courses through PLASP. 

A refund of 50% of bi-weekly fees is given, upon written request, for 10 or more consecutive program days missed due to hospitalization or illness. A doctor's note is required.

All program requests are done online. To register for a PLASP program, you must first create a PLASP account.

Adding or cancelling programs  must be done by logging into your PLASP account. Please note that cancellation requests must be submitted 10 business days prior to the next scheduled pre-authorized payment day.

Yes - it is not uncommon for another individual to pay for child care fees. Fees can be paid by another person, as long as current payment procedures are followed.
