Let's Make Paint
Ready to express some creativity? With just a few ingredients, you and your child can create your own paint! To make the paint, whisk ¼ cup of baking soda into ¼ cup of water in a small mixing bowl. Add a few drops of food colouring of your choice. You can repeat this step to make as many colours as you like. Make sure to give your child opportunities to lead in this process. Giving them tasks that they can do will help instill confidence and help them learn to solve problems encountered in active learning and play. Now that our paint is ready let's get creative!
What You Will Need:
- Small mixing bowl
- Baking Soda
- Water
- Food Colouring
- Whisk
- Paper
- Paint Brush
Engaging Your Child:
With the change in the routine, children need positive and meaningful interactions. Positive interactions with children convey to them that they are valued as competent and capable individuals. Have the activity set-up in a place where you don’t mind getting messy. Introduce the activity by saying “Would you like to help make some paint?” Children love being valued and by asking your child if they would like to help, makes them feel important. After the paint is made, show your child how to use the paint. Each person should have their own paint brush to paint with. Why not paint something together on a large sheet of paper or a canvas?
