Stepping Stones

Using the whole body, this activity requires children to plan their movements and practice their balance. All you need are cushions to act as stepping stones. If you do not have enough cushions to lay down, you could also use tape to mark out the steps. Tip: If your child is older and likes a bit of a challenge, place the cushions further apart as this will require some stretching out and perhaps some problem-solving.
This activity is fun to do together. Lay down the cushions in a single file and show your child how to walk from one “stepping stone” to another, “Watch me go across this path. Can you try?” Encourage your child to walk on them several times and help them as needed; “I can hold your hands and you can try jumping over to that one.” Some other variations: jumping from one to another, crawling from one to another, counting out each stone as you move from one to another, walking the stones to a song and when the song ends you have to freeze or pose!
