Writing Cards

Writing messages to friends or family can help us to feel more connected at a time when we may really be missing those connections with others. Have a look around your home to see if you have some stationary or greeting cards lying around. Gather them up and let’s begin!

What You Will Need:

-markers or crayons

-stickers to decorate (optional)

-stationary or cards or paper

Engaging with Your Child:

This activity is called Writing Cards, but it doesn’t matter whether your child can actually write words or letters. Knowing what your child is capable of, you might just ask them to draw a picture for the recipient of the card.  “Let’s draw a picture of you with grandma. Then we can show her your picture and cheer her up.” This activity is largely about the feelings that the sender feels as they think and write messages for their friends or family members. You really love and miss grandma. She misses you a lot too.” Talking about how your child feels and giving them words that explain their feelings is helpful for them to learn empathy and understand their own feelings. Its ok to feel sad. Everyone feels this way sometimes.
