Building Blanket Forts

This activity is a classic family favourite. Children love forts because it’s a spot that they can hide in, crawl in and out of, have some quiet time or privacy, and spend some quality time with you and other family members. Bonus, building it with you is also half of the fun! Gather some sheets and blankets and plan where the fort can be built.

Option 1: You can use chairs around the home to be support pillars for your fort. Place them around the area you are building the fort and stretch sheets over the top. Next, gather cushions/pillows to put in your fort.

Option 2 (fast and easy):  You can use the dining table and stretch sheets over to cover the sides.

Option 3: Stretch sheets over the couch or sofa. You may need some tape to tape the sheets onto the walls if the couch is too low. Here, you are making a tent like fort. Nice thing about this option is you can leave it up a while and “camp” the whole day! Why not bring a flashlight?

There are so many ways that you can make a fort but the most important thing here is making the fort together and then enjoying it together.  These activities are fondly remembered by children and will be the kinds of things they talk about for the rest of their lives ~ “I remember the times we made forts in our family.”
