Free the Toys

Oh no! The toys are trapped. Can you help free them? This is an easy to set up activity and will sure to interest your infant or toddler. Can your child free the toys that have been trapped by tape? Let’s get started!
-painter’s tape or masking tape
-a surface such as a wall, tray or cookie sheet
-Some loose animal toys, Duplo or small cars (almost any type of toy will work)
Secure the toys to a wall (or other surface) using painter’s tape.
Engaging with Your Child:
Build some excitement with some storytelling to capture your child's interest. “I came into this room a few moments ago and I saw your toys have been trapped. What are we going to do? How can we free them?” Encourage your child to pull the toys off and release them from the sticky tape. Tape can be tricky for infants and toddlers to deal with- some will dislike it very much and may become frustrated with it stuck to them. Watch your child’s reaction and help him/her through this challenge, “That tape is stuck to your fingers and you really want it off. Do you want me to help you?” Carry the story throughout the activity, “I wonder who trapped your toys? After we free them and return them to safety, we will have to look for some clues."
