Pop, Pop! Exploring Bubble Wrap

Bubble wrap is one of those magical materials that
children (and adults) find fascinating to explore. It’s an open-ended material and can promote fine motor and gross motor skills. Here are a few fun ways to get your bubble wrap to make that satisfying pop sound:

  1. Pinch and squeeze it. Give your child a small square of bubble wrap to explore individually and pop by pinching it. You might have to demonstrate this first. If your toddler doesnt have the dexterity to pop the bubble this way, then try the next method.

Jump on it. Tape a larger piece of bubble wrap down onto the floor and get your child to jump on the bubble wrap or stomp down on it with their feet. This method is full of pops and a great way to use those gross motor muscles too.

  2. Tape it to the wall. Tape a piece to the wall and encourage your child to pop it by poking, pounding, and/or hitting it with their hands. Dance on it! Again, securing a large piece on the floor with tape, play some music and have fun dancing on the bubble wrap to music.

  3. Roll out the pops. Tape the bubble wrap to the tabletop and give your child a rolling pin, a toy car/truck, or a tennis ball. Encourage your child to roll their item around the bubble wrap to get the pops out.
