Infant Scarf Pull
If you have an early learner you will know that they are very curious and love to explore things around the home. Perhaps you have witnessed your child with a box of tissues and pulling out tissue after tissue with great enjoyment. This simple scarf pull activity will mimic that experience and encourage your little one’s gross and fine motor development as well as, hand eye coordination.
-
Empty container with opening i.e. facial tissue box, Pringles tube, coffee canister or wipes container
-
Various scarves or pieces of fabric
Find a suitable container and if needed, cut an opening on the top of container to allow for a scarf to pass through. Gather a few scarves and join ends of scarves to one another to make for a really long scarf pull. Next, place tied scarves in the container with a bit of the scarf slightly pulled through to help your child get started. When your child begins pulling at the fabric, encourage him/her, “Yay, you’re pulling it out all by yourself!” and, “Keep on pulling, you can do it!” and, “You’re working really hard to get the scarf out of this container.” Encouraging your child can help to motivate him/her to participate as well as, hold their attention during learning experiences.
