Homemade Shakers

Looking for a fun and simple activity to keep your child engaged? Then our next activity is just what you’ve been looking for! Using materials found from around the house, stimulate your child’s senses with homemade shakers.

What You Will Need

  • Clear plastic bottle(s) in different sizes.

  • Materials to fill the bottle(s) for example; water with dish soap and food colouring, rice, pasta, beans, pom poms, crayons and etc.

  • Tape or Glue to secure the lid.

Engaging with Your Child

Place the bottles on the floor in different areas of the room. Sit away from your child and encourage them to crawl towards you by shaking and tapping the bottle. When they get close to you, hold the bottle in your hand and encourage them to extend their arms to reach out and take hold of it. Once they begin to explore the bottles, respond using facial reactions and gestures with your body for example; surprised face when they bang the bottle with their hand and make a loud sound, shaking your body when they shake the bottle.
