Bird Feeder Garlands – A Science Activity
Time to connect with nature by making some creative bird feeders – this time in the form of a garland. Get ready to gather, create and observe!

What You Will Need:
-
Pipe cleaners
-
Tape
-
Foods for the birds such as, fruit, cereal, dried fruit (raisins, figs), etc.
Process:
-
Create a tight loop at one end of the pipe cleaner and secure it with tape.
-
Thread food items onto the pipe cleaner to create your garland.
-
Loop the bottom end of the pipe cleaner and secure with tape.
-
Find an outdoor space where children (with help) can tie the garland to a tree branch or fence post.
Tips: When birds come to visit the feeder, ask children to observe. What colours are the bird(s)? What size? Perhaps children can later look up on the internet (with adult permission) what type of bird(s) may have been visiting! You may find you get some squirrel visitors too!
