Parachute - Gross Motor Games

Enhance your child's language skills and strengthen their muscles by engaging them in gross motor games using a Parachute. Our next activity is a personal favourite of many and is often played in our programs.

What You Will Need:

  • Parachute or Large Sheet

  • Soft Balls

Process:

Mushroom

Using both hands, encourage your child to tightly hold onto the edge of the parachute (large sheet) while you hold onto the other side.

Give verbal cues and say “Up, up, up”, while slowly raising the sheet over their head and “Down, down, down” while slowly lowering the sheet to their toes. To make the sheet into a mushroom say “Under, under, under”, and get inside the sheet while still holding on to the corners.

Popcorn

Let’s pretend that the soft balls are popping corn!

Place soft balls on top of the parachute (large sheet). Shake the parachute by moving it up and down, then slow and fast.
