3-D Squeeze Chalk – Arts and Science

Squeeze chalk looks and feels like real chalk and dries in a matter of minutes.

What You Will Need:

  • ½ cup of cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • ¼ cup of water
  • 4-6 drops of food coloring (or Tempera paint made for children)
  • Medium sized zip baggies

Process:

  • Mix cornstarch and flour together in a small bowl.
  • Add water and food coloring (you will need a separate bowl for each colour you are making).
  • Mix until it is the consistency of a thick paste. If the mixture is too dry, sprinkle with a little more water and stir.
  • Pour mixture into a separate baggie for each colour and seal.
  • Cut a small hole in the corner of the zip bag. Squeeze out the chalk to create your design!

Tips:

  • This activity can also be done using disposable cake decorating bags instead of plastic baggies if you like. Get creative and use the different decorating tips to create unique designs!
  • If you don’t have a driveway to draw on, try painting on dark construction paper or bristol board instead.
