Number Toy Hunt

This activity focuses on counting and number recognition.  Young children learn best hands-on, and through concrete representation.

What you will need:

  • - Paper

  • - Marker

  • - Toys

Process

  • - On each sheet of paper, write the numbers 1 to 10.

  • - On each page, draw the corresponding number of circles to match the number on that page.

  • - It's time for your child to go on a toy hunt! Encourage your child to find and place toys in the circles that correspond with the number on each piece of paper.

Engaging with your child:

You can start this activity by announcing to your child “We need to go on a toy hunt!”  You can introduce the number cards a few at a time.  See which numbers your child may recognize as you may want to start with those numbers. Together, count the circles on the paper and ask your child to find toys to fill the circles on each page.
