Foil Art - An Arts Activity

In this activity, children learn and fun and engaging way to add a little extra finesse to their art!

What You Will Need:

  • Cardboard (size optional)
  • Aluminum foil
  • Paper
  • Black permanent marker, and other colors
  • Dull pencil (very important pencil is dull)
  • Tempera paint and brushes
  • Tape

Process:

  1. Tear off a piece of aluminum foil large enough to wrap around the cardboard like a present. Secure the foil on back with scotch tape.
  1. Children create a picture or design on a blank piece of paper. When finished the picture, lay it on top of foil. Children can also use a picture printed off the computer instead (black and white).
  1. Hold the picture in place and trace the drawing with a dull pencil. Press down firmly enough to etch the lines into the foil.
  1. Remove the drawn picture and draw over the design on the foil with black permanent marker.
  1. Paint the drawing on aluminum foil with a dry brush applying the paint in a fairly heavy layer or, children may want to color with permanent markers to give it a “stained glass” look.
