Playing with Balls

Observe your infant's reaction when you introduce them to balls of different shapes and sizes. Have your child explore the balls in their own way by touching, feeling, squeezing, and bouncing.

What You Will Need:

  • Various different balls (textured, big, small, bouncy)

Engaging with Your Child

Children in their early years naturally gravitate towards objects that roll. Start by sitting on the floor and rolling a ball towards your child. Encourage your child to pass the ball back to you and then keep the flow going. Then in turn, demonstrate how the ball bounces, “the ball is so bouncy, it’s going up and down”, and then pass the ball back to your child to observe their reaction. As you engage in play, provide options for sensory exploration by adding various different balls for them to touch and feel. Describe the features of the balls as you pass them alongWould you like to feel this bright red ball?”.
