Paper Tunnels and Balls

This quick and easy activity allows children to exercise large muscle movement, hand eye coordination, and spatial awareness.

What You will Need

  • - Scissors

  • Strips of paper in various sizes

  • Small balls (cars and trains work great too!)

  • Masking tape

Process:

  • Make a 1-inch fold at each end of the strip of paper

  • Tape one end of the paper strip on the floor

  • Tape the other end of the strip of paper on the floor creating an arch

  • Roll ball through tunnel

Engaging with Your Child

You can start this activity by eliciting your child’s help to cut strips of paper.  Together choose a place that will allow enough space to carry out this activity.  Once your tunnels are in place, you may need to model rolling the ball as children tend to naturally want to throw balls.  Making observational comment of what you see your child doing will boost your child's self-esteem and confidence, "I see you aiming your ball for the red tunnel”.
