Printing Turkeys using Hands and Feet
Here’s a fun activity for the family to enjoy together leading up to the festive weekend. Using selective craft materials, create memorable turkeys with your child by coating their hands and feet with paint and stamping them onto to paper.
-
- Red, yellow, orange and brown paint
-
- Paint brushes
-
- Scraps of red and yellow craft paper
-
- Googly eyes
-
- Paper
-
- Scissors
-
- Glue
-
- Old sheet or plastic cover (optional)
-
1. Coat child’s hand with yellow paint and firmly press their hand on the paper. Repeat with orange and red paint having them place their palm around the same spot to make the turkey’s feathers. Set aside to dry.
-
2. Coat child’s foot with brown paint and their toes with orange paint. Press firmly onto another piece of paper. Set aside to dry.
-
3. Cut around the handprint and footprint. Cut a red waddle (tear drop shape) and a yellow beak (triangle shape) and have child glue them and a googly eye to the heel side of their footprint to make the turkey face.
-
4. Have child glue handprints to the back of the footprint. We now have a beautiful turkey to decorate for Thanksgiving.
To begin, place a sheet or plastic cover on the floor (if available) and place the materials on top. Explain to your child the process and purpose of the activity, “Today we are going to be creating turkey art”, “Our hands and feet are going to get a little messy with paint”. Ask for their opinion to make simple decisions “Which colour of paint should we use first? Would you like to start with your hands or your feet?
