Music and Movement using Hula Hoops

Hula hoops are fun, light weight, and immediately draw children towards them. Improve motor skills and coordination by creatively engaging with your child using hula hoops.

What You will Need

  • Hula Hoop

Process

  1. 1. Pretend to use hula hoop as a steering wheel while singing songs like “The Wheels on the Bus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_04ZrNroTo) and Vroom Zoom, Zoom, Zoom We’re Going to the Moon (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVLDtZEBfMI).

  1. 2. Now let’s all pretend to be Astronauts, as we step into our hula space ships. Go as low to the grown as possible and making rattling sounds of the space enginestarting at five, slowly count down to one and end with a huge leap!

Engaging with Your Child

Since this activity requires lots of movement, using outdoor space is recommendedHold the hula hoop in your hand and begin to sing the song(s) of your choice and invite your child to join. Alternatively, you can sit and pretend to be the conductor of the train, the driver on the bus, or make it humorous with “the wheels on the firetruck, go round and round”.
