Mirror Art

Providing opportunities for children to identify and express their feelings positively supports their skills in order to manage themselves effectively as they grow. Using mirrors as a canvas, encourage your child to draw their own reflection and engage in conversations about emotions.

What You will Need

  • Mirror

  • Washable paint or markers

Process

  1. Start by looking into the mirror and making various facial expressions; happy face, sad face, angry face etc.

  1. Offer your child markers or paint and encourage them to draw what they see in the mirror.

Engaging with Your Child

Support creative expression by modeling different emotions in the mirror with your child.  Ask your child “can you make a happy face, sad face, angry face? etc.”.  Validate that all emotions are okay. Children who learn healthy ways to express their feelings are more likely to have positive attitudes later in life.
