PLASP Programs Extend Children's Learning Before and After School

At PLASP children are always at play, which means that even if they don’t realize it, they’re always learning!

PLASP offers high-quality childcare that is built on active, hands-on learning before and/or after the regular school day. PLASP children have the opportunity to learn new skills, or build upon subject matter that they are already familiar with, in a fun and inclusive environment.

“Hands-on exploration using loose parts and open-ended materials is one of the core components of learning at PLASP, and follows ‘How Does Learning Happen?’ Ontario’s pedagogy for the early years”, explains PLASP Curriculum Manager, Diane Phu. “Program educators foster children’s creativity while encouraging children to use their imaginations while they build and create.”

A wide variety of learning activities take place in PLASP programs, some examples include:

  • Literacy skills through letter games, reading, and writing.
  • Hands-on activities such as crochet, sewing, painting and crafting with beads.
  • Math and science using a variety of objects and materials, as well as conducting experiments and exploring nature.
  • Learning about different cultures and traditions in a respectful and inclusive environment.
  • Physical activity and sport both during indoor and outdoor time.
  • Opportunities to learn and talk about healthy eating. Healthy snacks are provided by PLASP during program.

PLASP Early Learning and Child Care centres provide full-day care to our youngest children in our infant, toddler and preschool programs. Children and highly trained and caring educators participate in hands-on learning throughout the day. Our Early Learning and Child Care programs implement the HighScope Approach - a proven curriculum that focuses on the child and values play as the best tool in helping children learn and develop.
