Books can be used in many ways; reading, pointing out illustrations, making connections, colour awareness, and so much more.  When we take a book and elevate its use, we extend the learning into a brand-new experience. This activity is about taking books you may already have and providing your child with an exciting literacy experience.

Engaging with Your Child 

 Point out interesting details, consider asking your child, “I wonder where the red hat is? Can you spot something that goes beep, beep?”. Illustrations help children understand the context of what you're reading.  As your child begins to place objects in the cup or bowl, affirm your child’s efforts, “yes that’s red, red is the colour of a firetruck”, “so close, this is yellow, try finding red again”. By providing children with experiences that enhance language and literacy, it helps them form into fluent readers in the future.
