DIY Bowling using Recycled Materials

Just the idea of creating your own bowling game at home itself is fun and exciting, but did you know that there is so much learning that can take placeReinforce simple writing concepts by creating DIY bowling pins using recycled materials.

What You
will Need

  • - 5-10 recycled items (water bottles, yogurt containers, plastic cups, apple sauce cups)

  • - Sharpie or marker

  • - Ball

Process

  1. 1. Gather and wash your recycled materials.

  1. 2. Using the sharpie, add numbers or shapes to the containers (you can also modify this and add letters or colours).

  1. 3. Stack your “pins” starting with 4 on the base and stacking upwards, 3, 2 and 1 “pin” on top.

  1. 4. Stand back and roll or toss the ball.

Engaging with Your Child

This is a great family activity that can be enjoyed either indoors or out! Once your materials are gathered, invite your child to the activity by offering them a marker to write along with you onto the pin. As you both begin to label the pins engage in conversation, What will you put on this pin?”, “This pin is a square etc..”, this allows your child to be more expressive with their ideas.  Encourage your child to stack the “pins” on top of each other, starting with “4” being the base and then “3, 2, 1”. Now it's time to stand back and enjoy the fun as your child knocks down the pins.
