Art Sensory Exploration
What happens when we mix red and yellow together? Hmm... Art sensory exploration happens when you make discoveries about colours by mixing paints. Extending on this idea, provide your child with an opportunity to observe and make connections by using primary paint to create secondary colours.
1.) Cover the activity area with a large sheet or newspaper.
2.) Fill each container with individual primary paint colours.
3.) Provide your child with paper, paper plates, and brushes to mix colours.
Variation; Use different painting utensils and styles such as branches, cotton swabs, or finger painting.
This experience will help your child to gain the confidence to freely explore and use their imagination. Spark curiosity by making predications as you go along, “It think..., I wonder...”. You can ask open-ended questions for example, "I see the colours are changing to orange when you're mixing red and yellow together, what other colours would you like to mix next?". Allow your child to take the lead and make their own discoveries.
