Matching Socks

Fancy materials are not always required to offer children meaningful experiences, sometimes you can just use socks! Reinforce simple math concepts by sorting, matching, and counting mis-matched socks.
1. Mix all socks in different sizes and colours together.
2. Have your child(ren) find the matching sock and then pair together.
3. Put the matched pair of socks into a basket or hamper.
Invite your child to the activity by placing a few mis-matched socks on the floor and say, “I wonder where the matching red polka dot sock is, do you think you can help me find it?”. Once they have found the matching pair, compliment their process by giving positive feedback, “Hooray you found the matching sock”. After finding all the matching pairs, initiate counting, “Let’s count how many pairs of socks we have 1, 2, 3...”.
