Part Two: Host Your Very Own Talent Show
Children love to sing and dance to their favourite music. Singing, dancing and creative movements help children to connect with themselves, others and with the world around them. Celebrate this lovely Friday by dressing up and hosting your own talent show using the microphones you created yesterday.
Use the prop from yesterday’s activity to enrich this singing and dancing activity. Singing is a fun way for kids to learn how to communicate. This helps them recognize sound patterns and pick up new vocabulary to string together to form sentences. Dancing is a fun way for children to become confident in moving their body. For toddlers, this helps them build coordination and strength. Music and movement benefit your child’s overall development, including their self-regulation, self-esteem and turn-taking skills.
Let's shake off some energy and begin the Talent Show. You can start this activity by dressing up in your favourite, clear up some space and enthusiastically say “Today we will all take turns to present all the talents in our home! I will start by singing and dancing to.... Are you ready? I can’t hear you! ARE YOU READY?!”. Play your favourite song to sing along and dance to. Your child might begin to imitate your movement or make their own moves to dance by your side. Once you're done, give your child a turn. Ask them, “What song would you like to perform to us today?”. Give them the space to sing along and dance to their song. Imitate their movements and applaud your child’s efforts. Take turns and have loads of family-fun!
