Messy Sensory Art Play
Are you ready to get messy today and decorate? Children love to create things with their hands and this is why sensory play is a top favourite. This fun sensory play can be easily done by preparing shaving cream, paint, a cardboard box, kitchen tools and loose parts.

-
- Loose parts
-
- A small box
-
- Tape
-
1. Tape down the open ends of the cardboard box.
-
2. Place some shaving cream or paint on any part of the box.

3. Use hands or kitchen tools to spread the shaving cream/paint however you please.
-
4. Use loose parts to decorate your box.
Open-ended activities give children the freedom to create and explore without any expectations of how it will end – and this the perfect way to cultivate freedom in expressing their ideas, thoughts and feelings. Provide your child the materials and allow them to lead with their heart. Ask your child open-ended questions about all the materials you have provided and allow them to feel and play with each item, such as “How do you like the feeling of the shaving cream? What are you going to do with it?”. Try your best not to control the outcome of this activity and your child will be able to have the time and space to make their very own artistic creation. Ask them what they created and why it’s important to them. They may have created a cake, a vehicle, an animal, or a house – and that is the beauty of open-ended materials, it allows their imagination to roam free. A focus on the process of creating is important because it allows them to feel a true sense of accomplishment and pride and raises their sense of confidence about the impact they can have in this world. Praise their efforts and have fun!
