Engaging with Your Child
Let’s bring fun to the kitchen and make these colourful and sweet easter eggs. Invite your child by saying “Would you like to help me make delicious and sweet easter eggs?”. This kitchen activity will give your child an opportunity to practice their helping and communication skills. Some children may not volunteer or offer their assistance but may need someone to ask them for their participation. Wait for your child to respond and honour their response. If your child is not interested, perhaps find another time or continue doing this activity on your own in a fun way – this may attract their attention to join you. Engage in conversation with your child by asking them open-ended questions such as “What’s your favourite ingredient?” and “What do you think will happen next?”. Thank your child for their help to complete the simple steps of mixing, measuring, and shaping. This will reinforce their pride in helping and assisting others. Bon Appétit!
