Squish and Paint
Squish and Paint
Painting provides countless benefits for a child’s overall well-being and
development. Let us paint together using materials right from home. The focus of this activity is to enjoy the process of painting, experiment and freely express ourselves creatively.
-
Paper, foil or a cardboard sheet as a canvas
-
A spoon or toy hammer, etc.
-
Small pieces of cardboard or face pads, etc.
-
Paint
-
Place your canvas on a surface.
-
Squirt small blobs of paint on your canvas
-
Place a face pad or a small piece of cardboard on the top of each paint blob.
-
Use your fingers, the back of the spoon or a toy hammer to squish the paint.
-
When you are done, remove the pads or piece of cardboard from your canvas.
-
Repeat as many times as you want.
-
Once complete, leave to air-dry.
Invite your child by saying “Do you want to squish paint with me?”. This activity focuses on the process and experimentation that will happen on your child’s canvas. Encourage your child’s efforts and paint alongside with them. Find organic moments to enrich their vocabulary with words like squish, tap, scoop, brush, stroke, and squeeze. Ask your child open-ended questions such as, “What do you see happening on your canvas?” and “How does that feel on your fingers?”. Have extra materials handy in case your child wants to experiment with this activity longer. Encourage your child to lead this painting session with their heart and follow their lead.
