Simon Says Round Up the Balls
On this beautiful Friday, we are going to play a super simple ball game that will introduce positional vocabulary to your child all while promoting physical movement and building endurance.
-
Place the ribbon, string or hula hoop on the floor.
-
Scatter the balls within a few meters of the ribbon.
-
Complete the action that Simon said to do
-
With older children, you can extend the activity by using 2 hula hoops and having them to sort the balls into sizes (big vs. small, etc).
This is an activity that can boost children's activeness, and encourages them to have fun and learn about positional words. Find moments to emphasize words such as left, right, in, out, around, up, above, and down.
Invite your child by saying “Hey! Let’s play a new ball game”. Arrange the set up and explain to your child the rules of the game. “...We will scatter the balls. I will have the first turn to say “Simon Says” then we will play the music and have to finish what Simon Said before the music stops! We can do it together. Are you ready to play?”. You can prompt your child to collect all the balls in the circle, collect them around the circle, jump above the circle, etc. You can be as creative as possible with your prompts; the possibilities are endless!
