One of the best skills that you can provide for your child is the ability to cook. Simply invite your child to the kitchen to make this delicious pastry with you by saying “Would you like to bake some cookies with me today?”. Tell your child about the name of the pastry you are making, introduce the ingredients and encourage your child to measure, add, mix and spread during the baking process. Although there is a recipe for making this pastry, encourage your child’s creativity by asking questions such as “What shapes should we use to cut the dough?”, “What do you like to use for designing the cookies?” and “What would you like to bake next time?”. Use this activity as a learning opportunity to help your child observe what’s happening in each step. Build your child’s confidence and leadership skills by giving them the opportunity to lead you through this hands-on experience.
Tip: You can adopt this activity to your child’s age by changing the questions you ask and assisting younger children through the baking process.
