Celebrating Legacy and Leadership During Black History Month

This February, PLASP joins Canadians across the country to celebrate Black History Month. Black History Month provides a platform through which we celebrate the diversity and achievements of Black people in Canada and at the same time, reflect on Canada’s painful history and the challenges distinct to Black people in Canada that they continue to face in their daily lives.
This year’s theme is “Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations.” (Government of Canada, 2025). The Honourable Kamal Khera, Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Persons with Disabilities had this to say regarding this year’s theme:

“The history of Black communities in Canada is an integral part of Canadian history. This year’s theme is about reflecting and celebrating the contributions of Black Canadians in shaping our country while paving the way for a more equitable and inclusive future… Black History Month offers us all a valuable opportunity to learn more about the diversity of Black communities across the country, and to listen to and be open with one another on what we can do to build a better, more inclusive Canada.”
At PLASP, we pride ourselves in being lifelong learners. We are embracing this learning opportunity throughout February and supporting our children and educators with a resource and learning guide developed by PLASP's Curriculum Team to foster celebration, education, and reflection throughout Black History Month and beyond. PLASP will share photos of children and staff participating in these activities throughout February on our social media channels.
PLASP’s commitment to celebrating and fostering diversity, equity and inclusion is an essential part of our core values and we have been working at all levels of the organization to better understand and educate ourselves about the diverse backgrounds and stories of our employees and the families we serve.
